The people of the United States are not being very well represented by their broadcast and cable news networks. Except for Fox News, all of the other big news operations are decidedly liberal, even though the country is considered to be center-right politically. While there is a Republican in the White House and the party controls most state legislatures, Congress and has 33 Governors, most of the mainstream media stands in direct opposition.
There is no better example of liberal media bias today than ABC, the television network owned by Disney. For several weeks, there has been a protest of The View program and hosts Sunny Hostin and Joy Behar organized by the Media Research Center. Over 30,000 calls have been made to the network demanding an apology for anti-Christian remarks made about Vice President Mike Pence.
On the February 13 program, Hostin said “I don’t know that I want my vice president...speaking in tongues and having Jesus speak to him.” Behar chimed in that Pence suffered from “mental illness” if he claimed to hear directly from Jesus.
These blasphemous comments are typical of the trash uttered by hosts on The View, a program with four liberals and one token moderate Republican. The anti-Christian bigotry certainly was not well received by the target, Vice President Pence. In an appearance on C-SPAN, Pence said, “To have ABC maintain a broadcast forum that compared Christianity to mental illness is just wrong. He continued, “It is simply wrong for ABC to have a television program that expresses that kind of religious intolerance.”
Of course, Pence is right, but the network does not care about Christians or conservatives.Despite the controversial remarks, there has been no apology from ABC and the network has done nothing to discipline Behar or Hostin.
For years, former Clinton operative George Stephanopoulos has co-hosted Good Morning America, served as the network's top political correspondent and hosted their Sunday morning show This Week.
To make matters worse, ABC just announced that Trump hating liberal actor Alec Baldwin will soon start hosting a new Sunday show on the network. Baldwin has been badly impersonating the President for Saturday Night Live and seems to relish the opportunity to criticize him in public or on social media. Surely, the 63 million people who voted for President Trump in the last election will not be watching Baldwin on Sundays.
While ABC seems to not care about attracting conservative views, does Disney not care about attracting conservative parents to its attractions?
The calls to ABC are a good start, but it needs to be followed by an official boycott of the network and Disney parks. Financial pressure is all these media conglomerates seems to understand. While insulting conservatives may seem to be ideologically the right thing to do for a liberal network, if it starts costing them money, they might think twice.
