This week, Congress passed and President Obama signed a new law that extends unemployment benefits.  According to the White House, the  law is critical to Louisiana.

New Orleans, LA – Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced today his plans to fix the City’s $67.5 million budget deficit over the next five months.  His plan includes driving down spending to match the city’s recurring revenue stream by reducing overtime, managing departmental budgets, cutting and renegotiating contracts, and furloughing all city employees one day per pay period.  He also proposed allocating the proceeds from a recent insurance settlement to offset one-time revenue declines due to the recession and address a 2005 audit change. 

I will never forget the year 1986. I was general manager of a dynamic Chamber of Commerce in the thriving community of Lafayette, Louisiana. Promoting Lafayette was one of the easiest jobs in the world. Tourists flocked there by the busloads to experience the Cajun culture, and the economy fueled some of the fastest growth in the nation.

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has declared a  State of Emrgency due to the oncoming Tropical Depression 3.

Sen. Landrieu has announced that she has helped secure $3 billion dollars for NASA  that she says will help sustain jobs at La. Michoud Assembly Plant and for money for  other necessary programs.  According to Landrieu's press secretary in a telephone coversation with Bayoubuzz.com-- although the money is not in the  related House bill, the Senator and her office feel very positive about it passing Congress.  

Both the Louisiana Democratic Party and the Charlie Melancon, candidate for US Senate  are touting a  “internal poll memo” which says that democrat Melancon is only one point from his major  opponent, republican Senator  David Vitter.

The Public Affairs Research Council (PAR) today announced that PAR President Jim Brandt is retiring from the organization at the end of this year following 11 years of dedicated service.

On Wednesday, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal was on of the  speakers in Lafayette Louisiana addressed thousands of people concerned about the deep water  drilling  moratorium in the Gulf of Mexico.

The event, called Rally for Economic Survival was  the first major citizen response to President Obama's drilling moratorium.  

The Unified Command center responding to the BP Oil Spill has announced that a severe weather response due to a  tropical depression that threatens to be a tropical storm.

Louisiana Governor Jindal and others made their presence and their feelings about the Gulf of Mexico Deep Drilling Moratorium, today, in Lafayette. 

Jindal was one of the speakers who blasted the Obama administration for  a moratorium on drilling  of  oil  in the deep waters of the gulf.  The moratorium was installed as  a result  of the BP oil spill.
