Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards has issued a statement regarding what is now called Tropical Storm Harvey which is dumping substantial amounts of rain onto Texas, causing catastrophic flooding in Southeast Texas, including Houston.

The last thing New Orleans needs with inadequate pumping and a horrific flooding event only weeks ago, is another potential flooding event.  According to the City of New Orleans and Mayor Mitch Landrieu, much depends upon whether the rain band stalls.

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards is bracing for Tropical Depression Harvey, which is expected to become a Tropical Storm. On Thursday, Governor Edwards will meet with the Unified Command Group (UCG) to receive updates on Tropical Depression Harvey at the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP). Following the meeting, Gov. Edwards will host a press conference to discuss the latest information on the storm

New Orleans certainly would prefer to be in better shape as Tropical Depression Harvey moves towards Texas.

Landrieu tweeted, “We are watching systems in/near Gulf very closely and have entire team preparing just in case. No reason to panic
