The lights are dimming. The picture is not pretty.

We're weeks away from Election Day 2020. We're looking for the next leader to have the presidential demeanor, the control of personality to lead this country at a time where more nations are only a red button away from our armageddon.

If you’re a book publisher like me, and want to sell a lot of books, there’s no better time than during a pandemic. Book sales have been high for months, particularly the big box stores like Walmart, Target, Costco, as well as bookstores nationwide. Some of the titles published by The Lisburn Press have sales that have tripled in recent months.  If you’re stuck inside, what better way to pass time by reading a book.

AWOL TRUMP 3
It's now official. Down is up, and day is night. And Donald Trump is the man who saved America from health and economic Armageddon.

That's the White House narrative. If you were to believe the quick-talking, take-no-prisoners Presidential Counselor, Kellyanne Conway, her boss is the best thing to happen to treat infections since penicillin.

On Wednesday, Conway told a gaggle of reporters that the governors opened up too quickly. Her finger-pointing and boss-protection is no surprise, especially now. After a long hiatus during which the White House put fixing the virus on cruise control, with poll numbers heading due south, the President decided to become relevant once again.

If you think President Donald Trump is down and out right now, I've got an old Hillary Clinton campaign to sell you.

Admittedly, his numbers look bad and can get worse.  Two national polls emerged on Wednesday, and the President trailed Joe Biden by double digits. As the Coronavirus bakes throughout the South and West, Trump can't catch his own breath to pick up any steam. Americans clearly blame him for blowing the greatest threat to America's health and economic growth. He inherited a good economy from President Barack Obama, although there were moments of wavering.  With the strong wind behind him, he improved upon its upward trajectory that had been in place since 2011. Still, people gave him credit for the excellent feeling of prosperity because it was happening on his watch.

Could we possibly have a worse leader during the greatest national crises in modern American history than we do right now with President Donald Trump?

I’m serious. I only wish he would take the Coronavirus seriously, more than he takes his own political campaign and personal future.

For one, the economy is in complete shambles.

musk mask 5Today, if the weather prevails, America will hit two milestones.  The first is our return to space with the first launch in nearly ten years of a US man-occupied spacecraft.  The second did not take a decade. Nor did it take ten months.  Within less than three months, this country has witnessed the most destructive population genocide in American history, thanks to Covid-19.  On leap year day, the first corona-virus death was recorded. The virus which we were told would suddenly disappear has resulted in the morbid and jaw-dropping disappearance of 100,000 loved ones.

Once-feared GOP now JBE's cuddly lap dog

The Republican Party has total control of the Louisiana Legislature, with a supermajority in the State Senate and an overwhelming margin in the House of Representatives. Unfortunately, these legislative Republicans, who were elected to enact policies in line with the party’s platform, are not standing up for their principles and opposing the liberal agenda of Governor John Bel Edwards.

The coronavirus epidemic has raised a troubling apprehension in Louisiana and in many other states across the country. There seems to be a devaluation of older citizens. I’m in that number of older folks, and there appears to be ample evidence that older citizens are often the victims of an entrenched epidemic-the too often lack of concern for our older population.

The nation’s economy in a free-fall. The death toll continues to shock and climb day after day.  All communities are debating if and when it should abandon their severe lockdowns and return to a more restricted business-as-unusual.  Currently, the United States is facing an unimaginable 20 percent unemployment.  Yet, the deaths now hovering over 80,000.  Some experts predict that by Memorial Day, an unthinkable 100,000 people will have died as a result of the coronavirus.
