This weekend, two different findings from two respectable pollsters with two totally different results hit the New Orleans Mayor’s election streets.
According to a poll by Greg Rigamer, Desiree Charbonnet has a five point lead over her closest competitor LaToya Cantrell but 41% of those polled were undecided. The poll was commissioned by the Charbonnet campaign and the five point margin was within the same margin of error.
“Money makes the elections go around, the elections go around, the elections go around.”
In today’s political world and in this case, the New Orleans Mayor’s race, money tells us much about who might be in the runoff, post-election day. Desiree Charbonnet, has a major advantage right now in terms of cash-on-hand compared to all other candidates. She leads with a 3 to 1 advantage over her next top-tier opponent, LaToya Cantrell, New Orleans City Councilwoman.
The dirty attack ads and websites that define most political races are off and running in the race for New Orleans Mayor. In an age of SuperPacs with unknown donors, we're now seeing cowardly anti-candidate sites showing up in political cyberspace without any identifiers as to who funded, built, created or responsible for the domain and sites itself.
Labor Day has come and gone which means other than escaping from Category 5 hurricanes, what else is there to discuss than New Orleans elections?
The future of New Orleans is before us this summer and fall as the most consequential elections season in eight years takes center stage.
Two of the major candidates for Mayor are women and as a result, the city might be led for the first time by a female. The two leading candidates for Mayor are currently Judge Desiree Charbonnet and Councilwoman LaToya Cantrell. Also in the top tier of candidates is Judge Michael Bagneris, who ran against current Mayor Mitch Landrieu, four years ago.
