Gov. John Bel Edwards released the following statement following the passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act in Congress last night. 

Gov. Edwards said: 

With the Louisiana statewide election only a few days away, and with many voters already making their way to the polls, it would seem to be a good time for me to gaze into my crystal ball and make a prediction of just who will be successful after all the vote are tallied.  As many of you regular reader well know, I generally am right on the money. (yeah, right!)

Is it "criminal" or "justice"?

Regardless, Donald Trump is in the middle of philosophical or political or election battle involving Louisiana's US Senator John Kennedy and the current Governor, John Bel Edwards.

To be clear: "criminal" riminal, not as in a crime has been committed, but criminal in the more figure-of-speech connotation, meaning, simply "wrong". "Justice", not in the legal sense, but as in doing what is "right and just" regardless of emotions and sympathies.

So, is a letter from Senator Kennedy to President Donald Trump sent one day prior to Edwards's visit to talk criminal justice reform with President Donald Trump, "criminal or justice"?  

More evidence:

On Monday, Governor Edwards announced that he was being invited to participate in a criminal justice event at Bedminister (see Edwards’s announcement, below). The invitation, as did a prior one earlier during Edwards's administration, came directly form the President. Trump is a Republican and Edwards, a Republican.

It is early, but the jockeying has already begun in the 2019 Louisiana Governor’s race. The incumbent, Governor John Bel Edwards, is vulnerable as the only Democrat in a statewide elected office in Louisiana. In fact, Edwards is the only Democrat Governor in the Deep South.

He was elected in unusual circumstances in 2015, with a vulnerable GOP opponent, then U.S. Senator David Vitter. He was able to win because he shrewdly focused on his military service throughout the campaign. Edwards also campaigned as a conservative Democrat who defended the Second Amendment and was opposed to abortion.

The budget is done. Tax cuts have been made. So, is there anything else to discuss when the Louisiana legislature and the Governor meet once again, beginning June 18, to put the finishing touches on the amount of spending Louisiana commits to, starting July 1 of this year?

It has been a very tough year for state government. We've experienced two special sessions debating the budget and how to pay for what might be appropriated. During the regular session, also this year, the legislature passed an appropriation bill that was vetoed by the Governor.

Tic Toc. Tic Toc.

Roughly nine hours to go. When the clock strikes 12 midnight tonight, despite commonly-held belief, the princess won’t turn into a rag. But, if the Louisiana legislature and Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards do not resolve their differences, the bells would have tolled and the Louisiana legislative session will have collapsed again over the issue of the budget. Some call this process, fixing the fiscal cliff.  

On Monday, Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards addressed the legislature and the state in opening another special session to try to plug a fiscal hole.

The point isn’t so much that Democrats’ positions continue to deteriorate in Louisiana, or even why, but why Democrats continue to let it happen.

Today, Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards released his $25.3 billion “doomsday” Louisiana operating budget outlining the worse case scenario for the upcoming budget year. The budget would devastate health services and sharply cut into the TOPS program.  After the budget was released, the Democrats released a statement concerned about what they call $2.4 billion dollars in cuts.

Edwards wants the Republican-controlled legislature to pass a replacement tax package.
