The U.S. Labor Department released another strong employment report today. It showed that nonfarm payrolls expanded by 223,000, far exceeding expectations of most economists. The unemployment rate dropped to 3.8%, the lowest since April of 2000. For African Americans, the unemployment rate was the lowest on record, at 5.9%.

Thank goodness for House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. If not for their continuing mistakes and unpopularity, it would have been a tough week for President Trump and the Republican Party.

Last night’s Democratic Party victory in a congressional special election in Pennsylvania should terrify Republican Party leaders. Former Marine, 33-year-old Democrat Conor Lamb apparently edged GOP candidate Rick Saccone by several hundred votes.

Thank God for U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY). At least there is one politician in the United States Senate who is concerned about deficit spending. Last night, he led a lonely filibuster against a two-year $400 billion spending bill that balloons the budget and massively increases the federal debt.

Last night, President Donald Trump delivered a masterful State of the Union address. It was a soaring speech that focused on the accomplishments of his first year as President. He also outlined the challenges that lie ahead, including immigration.

Last night, the world watched President Donald Trump give his first State of the Union speech. Politically, it resonated throughout America.  What about in Louisiana?  More broadly, what can politicians and legislators learn from the Trump phenomena as they approach the upcoming elections and the legislative session?

“Progress Again!” Donald Trump can have the success he craves, and breach the mega-chasm of civil division afflicting the country if he becomes a Democrat. It would mean campaigning for Democratic Senate and House candidates next Fall, but he could do it. Chuck and Nancy would help, and the public would reward the new show with high ratings.
