A report last year delivered sobering news: “Louisiana has the worst health care system in the country,” according to Jill Gonzalez of WalletHub. Given that analysis, it is tempting to assume that any action Washington takes is bound to help our state. After all, there is no other state to pass on the way down.

But that assumption contains a crucial misdiagnosis. The goal is not to “do something,” it is to “accomplish something” and make the health care situation -- here and throughout the country -- better. Unfortunately, the approach that Beltway lawmakers are considering would make it worse.

Louisiana is having a bad “hair week” it seems in overall rankings as Wallet Hub releases its rankings for best and worst states to have a baby, attend a community college and woman’s equality. The results? Not very good.

WalletHub also released its best cities to retire. New Orleans led Louisiana with a 19th spot rank.

anxious laWhy are the people of Louisiana so stressed? According to a new Wallet Hub survey, Louisiana citizens are the most stressed in the nation.

It seems the state has a sparse number of psychologists, high housing costs and poverty levels, as well as poor job security and credit scores. People in the state get divorced at high rates, don’t get enough sleep, work long hours and are in relatively poor health. While all of those causes are important, there is another factor that is clearly the most important one is causing stress for the citizens of Louisiana, high crime.

BAD GROWTH Louisiana’s cities are not growing as well as some of the other states over the past seven years. The fastest growing, according to Wallet Hub, is New Orleans, ranked 168th. Lake Charles 216, Metairie 266, Lafayette 396, Baton Rouge 510, Shreveport 515.
