vote

Remember the 1970 song by Chicago; “Does anybody know what time it is, does anybody really care?” Well it’s close to Election Day in Louisiana, and it would seem by early voting projections and general lack of interest that Louisianans are not holding their breath to cast their ballot. Why the lack of attention to an event that affects the future of the state and the entire nation? There are a number of reasons.

 duke rise fall 4

David Duke has certainly become a household name in the United States and in some respects, worldwide.

He is an integral part of an angry moment in Louisiana and America’s history.

So, who is he? How did he become such a virulent white supremacist and anti-Semite?  What do we know about him that might be helpful to understand others who peddle in the far-right wing (or even far-left) swirl?

According to Bloomberg, the end might be near.

The publication reported today that "Special Counsel Robert Mueller is expected to issue findings on core aspects of his Russia probe soon after the November midterm elections as he faces intensifying pressure to produce more indictments or shut down his investigation, according to two U.S. officials".

After decades in the public eye, Hillary Clinton refuses to retire and ride off into the sunset. The woman who feels that the election was stolen from her is continuing to do interviews and make incendiary comments about President Trump.

Last night on MSNBC’s “Rachel Maddow Show,” Clinton claimed that Republicans were trying to “rush” the confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the United States Supreme Court. Of course, this overlooks how thorough the process has actually been. He has provided more documents than any other Supreme Court nominee in history. Kavanaugh has also submitted to 30 hours of Senate testimony, 65 meetings with Senators and answered 2,000 questions.

Louisiana is having a bad “hair week” it seems in overall rankings as Wallet Hub releases its rankings for best and worst states to have a baby, attend a community college and woman’s equality. The results? Not very good.

WalletHub also released its best cities to retire. New Orleans led Louisiana with a 19th spot rank.

Donald Trump says Paul Manafort is being treated worse than Al Capone. A little history is in order. The fella who ordered Al Capone taken down was President Herbert Hoover who was tired of impudent gang murders in Chicago by America’s most famous gangster. Treasury Secretary, Andrew Mellon, who received the order, directed his treasury department to gather intelligence about Capone’s finances and, thereafter, history was writ.

The judge in the case of U.S. vs Capone, James H. Wilkerson, ran a rocket trial on the 23 charges facing Capone. It began on October 5, 1931 and concluded on October 18th of the same year with a guilty verdict. Ironically, Wilkerson bears more than a resemblance to special counsel Robert Mueller.

The Louisiana Departments of Health, Environmental Quality and Wildlife and Fisheries today issued a series of fish consumption advisories for nine bodies of water. These most recent advisories include one new warning and updates to eight previously issued warnings.

jbe bottom 7In the same week that CNBC ranked Texas as the state with the best economy in the nation, Bankrate listed Louisiana as the 4th worst state in the nation to retire. Analyst Taylor Tepper cited the state’s “very high crime,” as one of the reasons for the poor ranking. This makes sense because retirees usually do not want to move to a state where they will be robbed or murdered.
