harvey22Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards is bracing for Tropical Depression Harvey, which is expected to become a Tropical Storm. On Thursday, Governor Edwards will meet with the Unified Command Group (UCG) to receive updates on Tropical Depression Harvey at the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP). Following the meeting, Gov. Edwards will host a press conference to discuss the latest information on the storm

According to the National Hurricane Center, “tropical Depression Harvey forms in the Gulf of Mexico.

Harvey is forecast to become a tropical storm later today

and strengthen on appraoch to the central Texas coast by Friday. HEAVY RAIN is expected to be the primary SE/LA S MS impact beginning later this weekend. 5 to 10 inches with locally higher amounts is possible through early next week. Monitor the forecast closely for updates.”

 New Orleans, which is more vulernable to a storm, than usual is under heightened observaton due to recent flooding and pumping outages. However, on Tuesday, Landrieu tweeted, “We are watching systems in/near Gulf very closely and have entire team preparing just in case. No reason to panic”
