SENATE RACE MONEY
The campaign finance reports are in for the U.S. Senate candidates, and it’s not surprising that the race has gotten into millions of dollars for some candidates.

Clinton closes gap in Louisiana
RealClearPolitics is reporting on a poll conducted by JMC Analytics which shows that Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is closing the gap with Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump in Louisiana.
Trump has a seven-point lead in the poll, which is down from 10 points a month ago. Here are the results:

Clinton surges in new polls
As Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s aggressive comments about women sinks in, a new poll shows that Democrat Hillary Clinton has opened a double-digit lead.
The poll, conducted by NBC News/Wall Street Journal, has Clinton with 46% support among likely voters compared to 35% for Trump.
Libertarian Gary Johnson had 9% and Green Party Jill Stein 2%.

Standing by Trump?
Republican politicians all across the country began jumping off the Donald Trump train once a video was released with the Republican presidential nominee bragging in vulgar terms about his exploits with women.
The list is a long one, with some Republicans urging Trump to step aside for the good of the party. However, a defiant Trump said that he would never abandon his bid for the White House.
But in Louisiana, not so much. GOP elected officials and party officials have remained eerily quiet. Some have even reaffirmed their support of Trump, like Tony Perkins, head of the Family Research Council, one of the leaders of the right’s evangelical movement, who said Trump is the better option of the two.
Maness, Duke left out
As we have said, the U.S. Senate contest appears to be a five-person race. Louisiana Public Broadcasting and the Council for a Better Louisiana (CABL) agrees.
For the first statewide televised debate, retired Air Force Col. Rob Maness and white supremacist David Duke did not make the cut, both Republicans.
Another shocking Senate poll
On the heels of one shocking poll comes another. Last week we reported on a poll conducted by Baton Rouge pollster Southern Media and Opinion Research (SMOR).
Now comes a poll from JMC Analytics and Polling,, headed up by John Couvillion of Baton Rouge. But there is a big difference. The SMOR poll was an independent poll, paid for by businessmen, lobbyists, and others.
The JMC poll was apparently paid for by the John Fleming campaign, according to Steve Sabludowsky of Bayoubuzz.com and Tyler Bridges, a reporter for the Baton Rouge Advocate.

Shocking Senate poll
A new poll on the U.S. Senate race released last week by Southern Media and Opinion Research (SMOR) of Baton Rouge has sent shock waves through the campaigns of some candidates.
Keep this in mind. Bernie Pinsonat of SMOR says the poll was paid for my business people, lobbyists, and others and that no campaigns were involved. So the poll is considered an independent one.
Fleming hits Boustany on two fronts
The alleged prostitution scandal aside, U.S. Rep. John Fleming, a Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate, took a couple of different swings at U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany, his fellow GOP Senate candidate.
There have been some punches thrown by some of the Republican candidates for the U.S. Senate, but with recent developments, the gloves are off. And, yes, that dreaded word “prostitute” has surfaced in this race just as it had in the governor’s race.
Senate poll revisited
We reported last week on a recent poll on the U.S. Senate race in Louisiana conducted by the Hayride website in conjunction with Remington Research Group.
This week, we will look at the support the various candidates in the poll are receiving in different areas of the state as well as from political party respondents.
