bel edwardsToday, Lousiana House GOP members of the Joint Budget Committee stopped the State’s Medicaid contracts with a vote of 17 against, 7 for.

Shortly after, Gov. John Bel Edwards issued the following statement on today’s Joint Budget Committee vote:

“To put it simply, the people of Louisiana deserve better. The partisan spectacle lead by a vocal minority in the House fell far below what we should expect of public servants who have pledged to uphold the best interests of their constituents. The contracts they failed to advance in today’s vote were critical to providing health care for 1.6 million Louisianans, including 800,000 children. The contracts were carefully written and thoroughly vetted and represented strongly renegotiated deals for the state and taxpayers. No question or concern raised went unaddressed following months of review and more than three public hearings. These contracts are far superior to initial contracts that flew through the legislative process under the previous administration.

Louisiana legislature news

“People are sick and tired of politicians leveraging the health and well-being of Louisiana citizens for messy political battles. That has gone on long enough. In light of the continued gridlock on the part of a minority of House members, my administration will take action to do what is best for the people of our state.”
