This Saturday is a big day for Louisiana.  Voters will choose the person to serve as our state’s governor for the next four years.  My vote goes to Gov. John Bel Edwards.

When Gov. Edwards assumed office nearly four years ago, he inherited a fiscal nightmare that was worse than anyone realized.  It was a $2 billion deficit that the state had to remedy.

For months I have been imploring President Donald Trump to get involved in the Louisiana Governor’s race before the primary election. Initially, it was reported that he would only come to Louisiana for the run-off election.

However, it soon was apparent to this commentator that without the President’s involvement, liberal Democrat Governor John Bel Edwards would probably win the election on October 12 by achieving 50% or more of the votes, thus precluding the need for a run-off election.

In 2012, Donald Trump considered entering the GOP presidential race. Eventually, he decided to forgo a campaign and endorse Mitt Romney. Undoubtedly, it boosted Romney’s campaign and helped him secure the GOP presidential nomination.

In the 2012 general election, Romney had plenty of opportunities to win the race, but played defense during the final weeks of the campaign and snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

With the Louisiana statewide election only a few days away, and with many voters already making their way to the polls, it would seem to be a good time for me to gaze into my crystal ball and make a prediction of just who will be successful after all the vote are tallied.  As many of you regular reader well know, I generally am right on the money. (yeah, right!)

It’ll be Lindsay Graham’s job to trek from the hill to the White House and tell Donald Trump that it’s time to pack up and go. To sweeten the pot, Graham will inform the president that the GSA has approved a Trump Presidential Library in the lobby of every building bearing the ex-president’s name.

After the start of early voting and days before Election Day, President Donald Trump decided to intervene in the Louisiana Governor’s race. The intent of his Tuesday morning tweet was unmistakable. He wants to help both Republican candidates, businessman Eddie Rispone and U.S. Congressman Ralph Abraham, and force incumbent Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards into a “runoff.” The President urged Republicans to vote for “either” of the candidates, referring to them as “both Great.”

It is time for the madman to say goodbye.  It is not up to me, for I have no power over what the Republicans do. It is up to you, my Republican friends. Singularly, the Republican members of the House of Representatives but primarily, those in the Senate.  Moreso, it is time for everyday Republicans (and major Trump supporter) to say, we are now seriously over the line of right. We have stepped solidly into wrong.

A remarkable thing occurred this past weekend that should have raised the eyebrows of any fan who has questioned the skill, the intentions and probably the heritage of NFL game officials. On Saturday, the NFL and the NFL Referees Association reached agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement that goes through the 2025 season. The current deal was set to expire next May. No information was given on improved methods of training or rules reviews or even the hands-off conversation of full-time officials. Nothing other than the subliminal news that the quality of officiating you have been seeing is the same quality of officiating that you will be seeing forthwith.

It’s Louisiana primary elections 2019, Politics with a Punch time.

Elections are less than two weeks away. Early voting is upon us.  Yard signs are out. Our politicians are knocking upon  our doors.  Our political antennas are piqued. We’re getting political come-ons on our cellphones, appeals in our emails and a barrage of negative ads on our TV’s, tablets and smartphones.

In politics, negative commercials are typical. Experts believe that it works, not in boosting turnout for the candidate attacking, but in reducing support for the candidate on the receiving end.

Thus, voters see it in almost every race. Although consultants, candidates and voters claim they do not like this form of political persuasion, it is pervasive, especially when challengers are trying to catch up to a leading candidate.

With absentee voting open and a Louisiana statewide election only days away, voters are making their final choices.  In the race for Governor, the undecided vote has dropped to around 10%, about normal prior to a gubernatorial contest just before election day.  But there is one other statewide race on the ballot. Louisiana Commissioner of Insurance. Have voters made their choice in this important office?  Not by a long shot.

Donald Trump is his own worse enemy.  The recent disclosure by the Washington whistleblower is another example of Mr. Trump not using his brain before he speaks.

Think about this.  In the 2016 election the Russians and maybe others interfered in our presidential election.  And now President Trump is accused of asking the Ukraine government to interfere in the 2020 presidential election.  If true how dumb is that?
