It took the NFC coaches until the end of the third quarter to let Saints quarterback Drew Brees play in Sunday's Pro Bowl -- shocking and purely coincidental oversight by the Falcons coaching staff. Brees completed four of six passes for 68 yards in the NFC's 55-41 victory over the AFC at Honolulu.
Saints safety Roman Harper had three tackles and linebacker Jon Vilma had two. The AFC apparently decided that it didn't care about the $45,000 check that goes to each player on the winning team, and they just collected the $22,000 losers' checks and enjoyed their Hawaiian vacation. With most of the AFC players acting like they couldn't possibly care less, the NFC led 42-7 at halftime. It was a dreadful game. Brees said he was going to spend time with his family now that his season is over. "I'm finally feeling that the ride from the 2009 Super Bowl is now ending and now I have a chance to relax a bit," said Brees. "I need to recharge my batteries, both physically and mentally"...
Three Louisiana players -- all of them committed to LSU -- are on the Parade All-American team. Baton Rouge Redemptorist offensive tackle La'El Collins made the first team on offense while O. Perry Walker defensive tackle Anthony Johnson and Redemptorist running back Jeremy Hill were named to the team as well. Parade will reveal its All-American team in Sunday's issue...
THE real action for the Super Bowl starts Monday when the Steelers and Packers arrive in Dallas. There will be no feel good Saints stories and Peyton Manning's place in history won't be debated. What we have this year is an uncommonly good matchup. It's the lowest point spread (2 1/2) for a Super Bowl in 27 years. The two quarterbacks are just entering their primes and among the game's most exciting players to watch. We have the best defense in the NFL (Steelers) against perhaps the most explosive passing attack. For once, here's hoping we have a Super Bowl week that's mostly about football and not the possible lockout...

In addition to the release of 30 employees whose jobs in connection with the sale of tickets were eliminated.
