Fifth-year senior Jarrett Lee may not be the answer. If he were, he would have kept the starting job, but he does have experience and can get the job done. His record is 5-4 as a starter, but 1-8 against the spread. He showed good leadership in taking the Tigers to a very close victory over Florida last season.
Perhaps not having receiver Russell Shepard is a bigger issue than the loss of Jefferson as the Tigers try to match up with Oregon's vast array of speedy offensive weapons.
In any case coach Les Miles is the kind of coach who can handle bad situations. He has consistently shown an ability to get his team focused by embracing the moment and welcoming challenges.
This offseason hasn't been kind to the Ducks either, but their starting quarterback Darron Thomas along the side of Heisman Trophy candidate LeMichael James are rough and ready. Both are from Texas and have SEC speed. The Ducks lost a lot of linemen from last year's team but still have gaps that need filling. I believe LSU will win the battles in the lines, offensively and defensively.
The Ducks will be clad in all-black uniforms, but more importantly, the question is--can Oregon play with the Tigers' physically?
LSU is getting 3 points and I'm taking those and predicting the Tigers will win 24-23.
