The decision means the only person willing to combat Governor Jindal is Democrat Tara Hollis, a school teacher.
’s decision came one day after a poll conducted by the Louisiana Republican Party which found that 58.5 percent would vote for Jindal if the election were held today and 8 percent would vote for state Marionneaux.

Marionneaux had commissioned a different poll that reported that the results were essentially the same but that Marionneaux could win if a set of negatives about the Governor as well as positives about Marionneaux were disseminated to the voters.
Marionneaux’s decision could have a major bearing upon the future of any Democrat running against any Republican for statewide office this year.
Some Democrats were hoping that Marionneaux would lead the ticket which could stimulate the Democratic voters and independents to go to the polls on election day and to vote for Democratic candidates.
So far, the only Democrat with statewide name recognition is Caroline Fayard, who ran for Lt. Governor last fall, but lost to Republican Jay Dardenne.
