The rally will spotlight a job-saving proposal from the CEO of an American company to keep Avondale open and doing what it does best: building ships. “It is unacceptable to allow thousands of jobs to be lost when there is an alternative that would make Avondale a successful commercial shipyard for years to come, especially when job creation is at the center of a national conversation,” said Ron Ault, President of Metal Trades Department of the AFL-CIO.
National union leaders, along with religious leaders from the region will speak. Sens. Mary Landrieu and David Vitter, Representatives Cedric Richmond and Steve Scalise, Mayor Mitch Landrieu of New Orleans and Jefferson Parish President John Young have been invited to attend. Percy Pyne, Chairman of American Feeder Lines and a key proponent for commercial shipbuilding in the U.S. and others.
The rally will assemble near the Superdome at Poydras and LaSalle at 10:00AM, March down Poydras toward the Hale Boggs Federal Building at 10:30AM, Rally at 11:00 AM at 500 Poydras (at Magazine), New Orleans, LA 70113
