The disgusting spectacle of the lame duck session of Congress is horrible to watch. Democrats have completely ignored the November election results and the message from the people of this country. Voters demanded less spending, but Democrats are intent on increasing the deficit. Voters wanted action on the economy, but Democrats are trying to repeal the military’s “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy and pass a “Dream Act” for illegal aliens. This “dream” is a nightmare for taxpayers. It is going to result in amnesty for millions of illegal aliens and billions of dollars in deficit spending as taxpayers will cover their college tuition costs. At the same time, tuition costs are rising for average Americans, so there is definitely a convoluted system in place. In America today, if you play by the rules, you get penalized.
Today, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is threatening to keep Congress in session until January 4 if his liberal agenda is not passed. On January 5, the new Congress will take over, offering much needed relief to the American people. Yet, incredible damage may be done to our country in the next few weeks.
An abhorrent omnibus spending bill of $1.1 trillion is being pushed by Democratic leaders. This “grab bag” of spending includes 6,488 earmarks and is almost 2,000 pages of government bureaucracy.
In addition, the extension of the Bush tax rates has been lumped with a variety of spending issues, including the 13 month extension of unemployment benefits for people who have been receiving these benefits for two years. This bill has ballooned to a price tag of $858 billion. Both bills will add to our mushrooming national debt, which is about $14 trillion.
The American people hate these kinds of bills which are assembled in the middle of the night by lobbyists who represent special interests and not the American people. While average Americans are facing hard times and dealing with high unemployment, lobbyists and politicians in Washington D.C. are enjoying the high life.
A new census study just reported that the Washington D.C. is the wealthiest region in the nation. No wonder, all of our money is sent to the Nation’s Capitol, where it is wasted and spent on special interests and not the American people.
The election results in November could be a foreshadowing of more political changes coming in 2012. A new Gallup poll shows that only 13 percent of Americans approve of the job that Congress is doing. They have an amazing 83 percent disapproval rating. It is the worst ranking for Congress in the history of the Gallup poll. Despite the roar of disapproval from Americans, it is business as usual in Washington D.C. What will it take to get the message through to these politicians?
