Is Joe Biden's $1.9 trillion covid-19 relief bill good legislation?  Obviously, the Democrats seem onboard. Republicans? Not so much.  Well, "not at all", seems more accurate.

This weekend, the Democrats in the Senate approved the legislation 50-49 and it is now headed to the House for its own vote on Senate changes. Then, if it does get the House ok, the instrument is on to the President for his signature.

Have ya noticed? Louisiana is holding an US Senate contest in just two-and-a-half weeks.  While fixating on Fox, CNN or MSNBC taking in the latest from the Presidential drama on TV, perhaps you might have seen an ad or two promoting the Senatorial contest.  Or, maybe you haven't.

But, it's true. There is an election on November 3rd. And looking back, a mere six years ago, what a difference time and politics can make.

For those keeping score, as the state begins its early voting today, the Republican incumbent Bill Cassidy is facing a major Democrat Party challenger, Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins, who has great credentials. He’s has a West Point education, Harvard law degree and military stints in Iraq and Afghanistan.

What was the very quotable Senator John Kennedy’s point?

Earlier this week, the Louisiana Republican US Senator made national news, once again. Louisiana’s junior Senate was questioned on CNN about a report claiming President Donald Trump acted vindictively against his “favorite” news media, CNN. The allegations are that President Trump pushed his staff to block the sale of CNN to AT&T. Reportedly, Trump’s disdain for CNN was the reason for Trump’s action to block the sale.

Might folksy US Senator John Neely Kennedy’s greatest strength, as of lately, morph into a sore political Achilles heel?

That is apparently what Democratic political Super PAC American Bridge is shooting for as the Senator keeps us all in suspense. The mystery is whether he will jump into the campaign waters once again, this time, for Louisiana Governor.

Next year, Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards will face the voters for re-election. He will have to defend his performance on an array of issues, including the expansion of Medicaid, the increase of taxes and the controversial decision to release thousands of prisoners onto the streets of Louisiana.

The Justice Reinvestment Initiative was a collection of ten bills passed by a bi-partisan coalition of legislators and signed by Governor Edwards last year. The goal was to reduce the incarceration rate and save money for the taxpayers of Louisiana.

John Kennedy has become somewhat of a folk hero on cable TV since his moving from the Louisiana Treasurer’s office to the US Senate.  He’s somewhat of the go-to guy for quips and quotes on the burning issues of the day.

This morning, he appeared on CNN’s New Day. The issue? Of course, President Donald Trump and Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.

Since their joint appearance on Monday, there has been much speculation, outrage, counter-outrage by the media, the left and the right over whether Trump presented a strong image last week at the NATO conference and in Finland, at the summit.

jbe kennedyGrab your popcorn and coke. The Senator John Kennedy vs. Governor John Bel Edwards fight is soon to begin as speculation mounts whether the freshman US Senator is running for the Governor’s spot, come 2019.

The latest spat involves the former State Police head, Superintendent Mike Edmonson. Kennedy, who had been State Treasurer and the Secretary of Revenues before that, believes that Edmonson should pay back taxes on certain income on services and accommodations provided to him over the past years as he headed the State Police.

kennedy kkk questionsIs Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy, taking on Trump like he did Governors Blanco, Jindal?

It appears that Louisiana Senator John Kennedy is beginning to show the type of independence that made him popular when he was State Treasurer.  Despite substantial bombarding of ads over the airwaves urging voters to support President Donald Trump’s judicial nominee, Kyle Duncan, he opted not to do so.  But, it might be some of the questions he asked that gives rise to his current departure of voting along party lines, particularly, supporting President Trump.
