It's time to talk Turkey.  

With Thanksgiving now roughly ten days away, it is almost winter holiday-time when we spend quality moments with our friends, relatives and loved-ones.  And to prepare everyone with the right spirit, on Thursday November 21, we're serving up some of the most recognized political-turkey-talk with punch.

It’s Louisiana primary elections 2019, Politics with a Punch time.

Elections are less than two weeks away. Early voting is upon us.  Yard signs are out. Our politicians are knocking upon  our doors.  Our political antennas are piqued. We’re getting political come-ons on our cellphones, appeals in our emails and a barrage of negative ads on our TV’s, tablets and smartphones.

After roughly 18 years of playing in some of the finest venues in the city, Politics with a Punch is taking it to the burbs and going Italian.   

“Punch”, as we love to call our political comedy show where just about everything goes, is leaving the Eiffel Society in New Orleans and taking its troupe of the top local newsmakers, celebrities,  media stars, comedians and politicians (no, the latter two are not necessarily synonymous.

Our new home is Andrea's in Metairie, and our next show is this Thursday August 1. Doors open at 6 pm, show begins at 8pm..

In 1999, I launched a career on radio and television, and started writing regular political columns. A frequent guest on my programs was Steve Sabludowsky, attorney and founder of Bayoubuzz.com. While we disagreed on some issues, we both agreed that there was a need for much more political humor in our state.

In Louisiana, our politicians, usually unwittingly, regularly provide plenty of comic material. Thus, along with our friend Betsie Gambel, we started Politics with a Punch, Louisiana’s version of Politically Incorrect. While the old show with Bill Maher is long gone, our program is still rolling along. Tomorrow night, we will be celebrating our 17th anniversary at the Eiffel Society, 2040 St. Charles Avenue.

Spring is in the air. Flowers are blooming, birds are singing and the kickoff of the Politics with a Punch season is about to begin.  So is our Louisiana statewide elections season.

Politics with a Punch is the very popular political-comedy impromptu event held at the Eiffel Society at 2040 St. Charles Avenue. The next date is Thursday March 28, 2019.

For those recovering from Turkey stuffed with family invasions, Black Friday’s, Cyber Monday’s and who looking for some sanity, albeit brief until Christmas and Hanukkah start spreading good cheer and gifts, you’re in luck.

Question: What do you get when a Fried Chicken, two New Orleans City Councilpersons, a Louisiana State legislator, a Jefferson Parish Coroner, a New Orleans music and TV personality and a New Orleans TV sports commentator cross the road?

After all, with mid-term elections in the air, and footballs flying around the dome, and chicken frying becoming a New Orleans fall festival, and with  local politics always percolating and crime in the street always in the news, what’s more is there to do?

Louisiana is known for its legendary music, its politics, its culture and yes, it's comedic moments. On Thursday night, Politics with a Punch presents it all.   Legendary musician and showman, Vince Vance will valiantly appear on stage along with actor, radio and TV host, Spud McConnell. McConnell along with his Dorignac commercials and other contributitons, put life into the legendary Huey Long. McConnell plays the former Louisiana governor and US Senator in a play featuring the iconic and famous powerful Louisiana politician. 

It’s SWEET 16 and anniversary time for Politics with a Punch, a New Orleans favorite.
